Default $6.5 99 UTG 5 handed with 16BB

Standard raise or push preflop?

------------------
HAND #3

Things to Consider
1.) Hand Strength
2.) Opponents stack sizes
3.) My stack size in relation to BB
4.) Position
Why are they important?
1.) 99 is a very strong hand for this situation
2.) There are no desperate stacks, most are in same ballpark area
3.) I am fairly safe at this point, with the 100/200 25ante level being next. I may be able to get away if I make a raise and am reraised, but do I want to get away?
4.) My position sucks, if someone wakes up with a hand behind me I am toast if I push.
As a result, I think I should:
Make a standard raise (2.5BB). Call if BB or BTN shoves, fold if others shove.

I would raise my standard amount and fold to a reraise.

700, and call shove from button or BB, but fold if CO or SB shove.

Like I always say, 99 is a monster.

2.5x is best.

Why 2.5 > 3.5?

I figured, we're UTG, so I want a little extra umpff to get all to fold. I also like 700 so I can call if BTN or BB shove. With 2.5 we have another decision to make.

2.5x gets the same job done while risking less chips and creating a smaller pot if flat called.
It's an easy call vs the BTN and BB no matter what.

Sorry to bring back an old thread again, but is this still true at lower buyins?

Yes I think it is. It makes the hand much more manageable.

Yeah, buyin shouldn't really matter here. You don't want to make bigger raises to try and get people to fold. Just make a standard raise to hopefully fold everyone out or maybe to just isolate and play from there.
