Poker Stars, $1 + $0.20 NL Hold'em Tournament, 50/100 Blinds, 5 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter BTN: 1,625 SB: 2,890 BB: 2,720 Hero (UTG): 2,270 CO: 3,995 Pre-Flop: (150) :5c :9c dealt to Hero (UTG) Hero calls 100, CO raises to 200, 2 folds, BB calls 100, Hero calls 100 Flop: (650) :Qh :Th :8c (3 Players) BB bets 100, Hero calls 100, CO folds Turn: (850) :6d (2 Players) BB bets 100, Hero calls ??? Results: hidden due to irrelavence Okay Okay, I should have folded these rags, but I didn't, and worse, I didn't bring them in for a raise... That being said, now I flop a Gut Shot Straight Draw. I'm getting the turn for a good price, right? Should I have called as played or raise here? His turn bet allows me to get a relatively cheap river card. What to do. He could be on a flush draw, right?

Call turn, you do realize both a seven and a jack make you a straight now?
EDIT: I do need to add, obviously fold preflop and fold flop.

Yes, I didn't think I had to write that here.
That's what made it even harder here. Should I have pushed my DGSSD? Keep in mind I'm only posting my losing hands here. I did call. Blank comes on the river, check, check. He wins Ace (rag) high! Edit: No duh, FOLD preflop. I said that already, lol. I'm trying to learn what to do after I've gotten myself into messes I shouldn't have in the first place. And don't come back and say, "Well don't get yourself into messes that you shouldn't be in. I have a wife for that.

Quite honestly the very fact that you are asking these questions says that you are not comfortable post flop, so the best way to fix that right now is only enter the pot with premium hands. You might be trying to learn too much all at once. We are advocating playing very tight preflop because it's the best way to stay out of trouble and it's easy to teach and learn. After you've got that down, THEN you can start thinking about ways to open up your game.

While I admit that it's frustrating to not get the advice you asked for, when starting out it's a good lesson to avoid setting up bad situations. However, since you insist, there's two big problems apart from your starting hand. The most obvious one is that you're in either a little bit or a lot of trouble. Obviously he has a better hand than you on the flop. He may have a much better hand though. You don't really want to be chasing if he's got J  9 . The less obvious problem is consistency. Your failure to define a hand is going to make it very hard to do anything in this pot. The preflop limp/call effectively rules out any monster holding on your part, so you'll have a tough time pushing anyone off a hand now. It's also going to make getting paid off on your straight difficult, since you're clearly drawing. |

EXACTLY correct. I started playing that way in the last couple of days. I think I played 3 hands until I was down to 4 people in a 9pp SnG last night. Luckily the cards came at the right time and allowed me to double or ven triple up before getting into danger of being too short. Until I get more of this stuff down, that's exactly what I'm doing, thanks.
