Default My Problem with "underbetters"...

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t20 (9 handed) [url=http://www.6man.org/cgi-bin/hhconverter.cgi:3w0k6dn0]TightPoker converter[/url:3w0k6dn0]

Hero (t1440)
SB (t1480)
BB (t1500)
UTG (t1420)
UTG+1 (t1480)
MP1 (t1490)
MP2 (t1280)
MP3 (t3270)
CO (t1500)

Preflop: Hero is Button with :As:, :4h:.
UTG calls t20, 3 folds, MP3 calls t20, CO calls t20, Hero calls t20, 1 fold, BB checks.

Flop: (t110) :3s:, :Qh:, :4c: (5 players)
BB checks, UTG bets t20, MP3 calls t20, CO folds, Hero calls t20, BB folds.

Turn: (t170) :Qd: (3 players)
UTG bets t20, MP3 calls t20, Hero calls t20.

River: (t230) :Th: (3 players)
UTG bets t60, MP3 folds, Hero ???

Is he possibly underbetting if he has me, or value betting?

Should I have called/raised/folded to the bet on the flop and turn?

Again, the problem is preflop.

Don't play ace-rag just because you have the button.

Fold preflop, fold the flop, fold the turn, fold the river.

Well I'd call preflop, but I'm looking to flop something better than midpair. Fold flop.

This is a problem I see frequently in sngs, but applies just as well here. Don't call just because you have the button, like sfustsh said. If you're going to play positional poker, at least take advantage of it and raise. But here, just fold preflop.

Echo. I have no problem calling preflop, but you must have the discipline to get away from this when you miss. You're looking to flop a monster on the cheap.

You will find different opinions expressed on this forum (some will fold this preflop, even on the button). Learn from everyone's point of view, and apply what makes sense to you. Keep on posting!!!

I should mention the *reason* I call here is because there are 3 limpers in front, so my odds are fairly attractive. But as I said I'm only interested in flopping two pair or better, or getting a decent draw.

OK, I was just about to reply to puckhead's reply with the question, "What do I flop and feel good about". If I were to call and flop say: :Ac :4s :Qh . That's two pair but not top two. How is that played, 'cause that happens to me too much as well.

Again I get, in my opinion "underbet" here often as well. Do I raise? if I do and get a call, have I learned anything about villain?

It's unlikely (although certainly not unheard of) that someone limped with AQ, so I'd bet that pretty strong on that particular flop. Any two pair is likely to be best, generally, especially on an uncoordinated board.

This was the reason for my starting this thread, not so much for what to do in this particular hand. Since I've been playing squeeky tight, I've watched A LOT of hands played before me. TONS of people are underbetting and just check-calling monsters only to pounce on the guy overplaying top pair or even Top Two Pair on the river, or even just settle for small pots boats and sets.

How do you defend against that?

I hate to keep quoting Phil Gordon, but he says the best defense against someone who's beating yuo is to use their strategy against them. This really doesn't apply here since both Hero and Villain are gonna check everything down to - "the best cards wins".
