Default Defending the BB with AQ offsuit...

Poker Stars, $0.25 NL Hold'em Tournament, 100/200 Blinds, 8 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

MP1: 1,060
MP2: 1,460
CO: 8,222
BTN: 4,013
SB: 2,200
Hero (BB): 3,070
UTG: 1,985
UTG+1: 3,205

Pre-Flop: (300) :Ah :Qd dealt to Hero (BB)
7 folds, SB calls 100, Hero raises to 600, SB folds

Results: 400 Pot
Hero mucked :Ah :Qd and WON 400 (+200 NET)

The SB has been playing pretty tight except for limping (a lot) and my new toy (Real-time) told me that he never "limp-called" before. So, I was pretty sure this mini-raise would make him set it down.

But is this the typical play in a siutation like this? Is it better to raise higher to make him pay? I mean if he called, I wouldn't feel to good playing OOP with AQ off.

When I clicked 600, I instantly thought, no I should of bet more!, but luckily he folded.

Actually your were not OOP if you are BB then you have position on the SB. I 3X raise is good I think. If he goes back over you then it might be time to get out. It would depend on the player of coarse. IF you bet too much more than that you are going to get your self committed to calling a re-raise. A limp re-raise from the SB in that spot can mean trouble for you.

oops yeah, that OOP statement was me mixing my hands up again. Yeah I woulda had position on him, but anyway...

So what is a good range of cards for me to have to raise 3x here? I know some books say that they'll re-raise without even looking at their cards in situations like this.

Obv. against a tight player like the SB here, it was automatic, but against the typical or unknown player, what's the concensus here???

I probably raise in this situation 10 out of 10 times.

Is it me or am I seeing the tide turning? My first bunch of posts got responses like, "Fold that crap", or "What are you thinking, dumbass?".

You guys may just make a poker player out of me yet!
