Default Was this a bonehead move or the right one???

Poker Stars, $0.25 NL Hold'em Tournament, 100/200 Blinds, 7 Players
LeggoPoker.com - Hand History Converter

BTN: 1,720
SB: 1,400
BB: 8,522
UTG: 4,513
UTG+1: 2,400
Hero (MP): 3,070
CO: 1,285

Pre-Flop: (300) :As :2s dealt to Hero (MP)
UTG folds, UTG+1 calls 200, Hero calls 200, 4 folds, SB calls 100, BB checks

Flop: (800) :8s :Ah :Th (4 Players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks, Hero bets 2,870 and is All-In, 3 folds

Results: 800 Pot
Hero mucked :As :2s and WON 800 (+600 NET)

My thinking here on the flop was if nobody else valued there hand enough to bet on it, then I may as well. Didn't think anyone would Limp-Check a pair of Aces. Do I dare let them get more "free" cards with my shitty kicker just in case? A pot bet or less might allow them to call. Right or wrong?

IMO the problem with this bet is the only caller you get probably has you beat. I would bet the about pot size. As far as pre-flop goes I think a 3x raise would be better than a limp. You can maybe push out any other weak A or if you get a call then you need to be cautious with an A on the flop. It's cheaper to find out pre-flop if your up against another A, than later on.

Fold preflop, bet 500 on the flop, fold to a raise, as played LOL congrats on having the best hand.

Question answered....
Yes, bonehead move.
I guess shortstacked, it's the only play, but with a decent stack, why risk someone having me beat and losing most if not all of my stack. A 500 bet serves the same purpose, right?
Sincerely,
The Sponge
(I think that would've been a better handle  )
