The hand really shows what a horrible decision it is to play a hand like villain's UTG+1 in a full ring game.
Villiain limps UTG+1... he either does this because he's a muppet with a lousy hand or he wants to thin the field In pot limit and UTG+1 full ring if you're him you're not going to thin the field too much with a raise there so it's not a horrible play to limp hoping for someone to raise so you can come over the top and isolate with your suited Aces or whatever, because if you only do it with Aces you telegraph your hand. He limped and you called so you don't know which he's doing other than knowing from how he tended to play previous hands. When you flop top two chances are you have the best hand there and when he calls you for sure have the best hand and he's drawing. As luck would have it he draws to not the flush but the gutshot and hits it. You have a new top two pair but the straight draw is out there. What could he have been drawing to? He would have a very strong draw if he had a set and flush draw, but he would be a favorite on the flop so he probably wouldn't play so slow. Different two pair? Limping UTG+1 not likely. Same two pair plus freerolling to beat you with a flush? Not likely and would play back harder probably. Naked flush draw? A straight draw is within his range there and makes sense. But if he turned the nut straight why would he flat call? You just limped too and you're showing aggression. To him it's possible that you have the same straight and you're freerolling to beat him with the flush, never a good time for him to pump up the pot. To him if you have a set and a flush draw, which would have been consistent with your bets, it's about a coin flip and there is no shame in peeling off the river, imo. I like your bet there because you're repping that strength when he gave an indication that he did not have it himself. Obv river goot for us bad for him and he makes the crying call.

He doesn't raise the turn b/c he's stuck with the nuts and no redraw. In otherwords, if you have the same hand with flush redraw possibility, he understands that it's all going in on the turn and he's fucked if the flush shows up, as opposed to flat calling cheaply on the turn and hoping to avoid a killer river card.
In this case, the killer river card popped up and he still paid you off. Edit: Also, the fuck he plays this hand for, is completely beyond me. And for what reason he calls the flop bet is also a mystery, lol. Last edited by mervhage; 06-19-2008 at 09:56 AM. |
