I've always debated whether its better to bet the turn there and deal with a possible check raise ... or just go to show down winning the minimum or losing the minimum? I prefer win minimum or lose minimum.

Villain holdings: a) Total air, overs. Yes we should bet but villain likely folds air to the flop raise. b) Naked deuce or 4. Yes we should bet. c) An 8. We should check turn as its unlikely anyone ever folds top pair and if villain has an 8 it won't be a spade thus making our flush draw a real hope. d) A flush draw,35, or 56 all which bet the flop. All of them got there on the turn. e) Flopped set. Our flush draw is good. |

Check turn is much superior, losing the least.
Our hand has low equity, and consider: Check behind on turn, at most lose 1 bet on the river if you want to call (never have to fold and forfeit equity, though). Bet the turn, and fold to a raise: forfeit all equity in the hand, and still lose 1 bet, if raise. I understand the chance that villain may just call our turn bet, but I think the c/r possibilities outweigh that fact. I would estimate our equity at just about 50/50, and that's perhaps generous, but folding will forfeit all our equity in the case that villain has two overs and a spade or a pair and a better spade (in which cases folding is a disaster). So I REALLY hate bet/folding, since we polarize villain's range and forfeit any equity we may have if we're ahead. Also, we're certainly not folding out better and probably not going to get called by worse too often if we bet the turn. I'm not really sure how I feel about preflop either. I might just dump it.
