TRip Report - Monticello again.
I get up this morning and my wife tells me she is going shopping with her sister, so I decide I need to go play poker. So I jump in the car and drive the 2 1/2 hours to Monticello, FL. I guess I should mention when I get there I had to take a piss. So I go to the bathroom first. Not much else to tell, there was no line I just did my business and got out. Hopefully like Snickers I will have a story to go along with this next time, anyway I head out to the floor and get on the list. There are two tables going and 2 people ahead of me on the list. So I think great I am going to waste a hour sitting here waiting. After 5 minutes or so about 5 or 6 more people come in and they start a new table. It turns out to be a pretty good table. I am doing really well and I am up about $150.00, when I make a really stupid mistake. I am in the BB and I look down at AKs. A very solid player in late position raises to $15.00, which was pretty much the standard raise. I decide to just call and see the flop, everyone else folds and we are heads up. The flop is 234. I check. The guy bets $30.00. I should have folded, this guy was very tight solid. Our stacks were about even. I decide I have the straight draw and and my A or K may be good as well. I call. I don't remember the turn but it gave me the nut flush draw. I check. He bets $50.00, I call. The flop is another 3, I decide to try and steal it and bet $50.00 more and he calls immediately. He had AA. At this point I had only showed down with premium hands so I thought my image might get me the pot, but no. So I am now back to just about even. From there I can't really remember many hands. I played some more hands badly, started calling raises I shouldn't have with marginal hands. I really went into donk mode. I was trying to make back what I lost instead of just playing smart. Next thing I know I am putting my third $100.00 buy-in out for more chips. That is when I woke up and started playing smart again. This is now about 5:00PM, I arrived about 2:00. My original plan was to play until about 5 or 6 and then go home. I dropped down about another $30.00 so I was down about $270.00 when I finally started coming back. I worked my way back up to about $120.00 and then I hit a really big hand for about another $150.00. I am in the BB and get QQ. A guy who had not been at the table long in late position raises $10.00. Everyone folds to me and I re-raise $20.00 more. He calls. When the dealer flips the three flop cards up one of lovely bitches is sitting right on top. So I check, muhahaha. Well villain bets $30.00, being the tricky bastard I am I just call. Then as always happens when I slow play the next card puts a possible straight and a flush draw is now possible. So I decide it's time to shut this down. The guy has about $70.00 more so I bet enough to put him all-in. He tanks for a long time and finally says I hope you have kings and calls. He had AA. The river doesn't help him and now I am finally back about even for the day. I then go on a card rush and I end up leaving the table +250.00.
I won quite a bit from one guy. He was the ultimate in calling stations. He called any raise pre-flop and called to the river with any pair or draw. He would sometimes fold at the river but not very often. If you checked to him you could always depend on him betting. I must have checked raised him at the river at least 10 times. He got very lucky against other people but not so much against me, which really helped. People kept trying to bluff him and it was a losing cause. He would not fold. He got busted once but when he left the table he was probably even or maybe even a little up. It was painful to watch him play.
So when I am leaving I drive out to the entrance of the parking lot and it is now dark as I stayed until 9:30PM. I just couldn't leave at 6:00pm while I was down. There is a cop with his lights on and he has someone pulled over just 20 yards from the entrance, so I am having a hard time seeing. I forgot this was a divided highway and I turn left out and just as I do I realize I am going the wrong way on the highway. So I pull over in the meridian and turn around and of coarse the cop waves me over. So I have to go through the whole sobriety test. He only made me follow his finger with my eyes. After he talked to me he realized I wasn't drunk, just a dumbass. He gave me a warning and sent me on my way. :) I am glad they don't offer free drinks in there like they did at the casinos, or I would have been screwed.
