Default Niagara Falls Trip Report, November 2007, Day Two (long)

Here's Day Two of my November 07 Niagara Falls trip. For Day One, [url=http://www.ridgepoker.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=1738:ql4qgpl9]click here[/url:ql4qgpl9].

So yesterday was a good day, both pokerwise and spending a little time with Johnny and Labatts. And I was looking forward to more of the same with the poker and Labatts. I had some great cards yesterday and all things being equal, I was expecting to not do as well today. I figure I used up all my good cards yesterday and today I might actually have to play some poker. :)

I did not sleep well, as usual. When I got back to the room, it was comfortable so I didn't turn the heat on. Mistake as I woke up in the middle of the night freezing. I flipped the light on and fumbled with the heater to get it going. Of course, I found it hard to get back to sleep. And then I started thinking about things. I'm the type that can't stop thinking, so once I get going, it's hard to stop. I finally fall back asleep but the night felt more like a series of naps rather than one long sleep.

The alarm goes off at 8:30 and I awake to Christmas music. I usually don't check the radio station on the clock radio in the room. As long as I turn it on when I set the alarm the night before and there's some type of music to wake me, I don't care. So I didn't know I picked a station that is already playing Christmas music 24-7. To me, it's waaaaaay too early for that. It's not even Thanksgiving yet. Are there people really wanting Christmas music this early? I hit the snooze three times and decide I better get up. I'm in no real rush as it seems I never get seated before 11 anyway.

After showering, I went to the front desk as instructed yesterday to make sure they have me locked in for tonight. I'm told it will be around $57 for the room, including tax. Whoa. I thought it was around $42 (the taxes on the room add up to about 6 or 7 bucks, so I was expecting it to be around a total of $50). Nope...I got the $49.95 rate. After thinking about it, I figure that I'm getting that rate because I made the reservations over the phone when I added it to my free night. I believe the $42 rate is the online (w/AAA discount). Damn. Oh well. No such thing as a free night, right?

Finally, at 9:52, I'm out the door to Dunkin Donuts. I get my usual...milk and a coffee cake muffin...and eat it there. I decide that I'm going to stick to the 100 max buyin. Seemed to have worked yesterday and I am comfortable there. I leave the Dunkin Donuts and call the poker room to get on the list. I have a new name to add to the list...Crosby. Yes, it is after NHL superstar (and Pittsburgh Penguin) Sidney Crosby. I thought about using Sidney, but I thought it sounded a little gay. I discussed this with Labatts and Johnny last night and they agreed. So, Crosby it is. And maybe it's my imagination, but the women at the poker room seemed to react favorably to the name. After I give my name over the phone, I get an "ok sweetie..see you soon". And I swear I saw a little smile when they finally called my name on the list and I approached the desk. I'm sticking with Crosby as my phone in name.

I get to the poker room around 10:35 and Labatts just got there before me. He's on the 100 max list and is next. But there's only one 1/2 100 max table going. There is also a 200 max table and a tournament going. It's a little dead. I notice T-Bone sitting at the 100 max. I mention to Labatts that the one guy is T-Bone, who I talk about in just about every report. Seems we always end up at a table at least once when I come up here. So I go on and on about how I think T-Bone is pretty good and how I try to be on his left so I can react better (I'm still in the stage where I react better than act). Just then, Labatts is called to the table. Of course, the whole time he's there, T-Bone does nothing interesting and Labatts probably thinks I'm out of my mind.

So with Labatts playing, there's only one more name on the list ahead of me. Someone comes in and I overhear the guy at the desk say not to go far because they're going to open a 2/5NL table and that usually frees up a couple seats at the 1/2. This is at 11:00. At 11:10, they open a 2/5 table and NOBODY from 1/2 moves. WTF? Finally at 11:20, I'm called and am sitting directly to Labatts' right.

Things are slow for me at first, then get going when I look down at KK UTG. I make it $8...and then things go horribly wrong, I'm on tilt, and don't write the hand down right away. When I try to remember, I can't. I believe we were all in on the turn and he rivered a straight. I think he called my all-in on a straight draw. Maybe Labatts can fill in some details. At any rate, I'm quickly down $100.

I get some ok cards, but hit nothing and have to add another 20. I'm now down $120 in a little over an hour. This is the exact opposite of yesterday. And I only have a total of about $300 set aside for the day for poker...that's all I had with me and I'm not going to hit the ATM (conveniently located right in the poker room...right next to the cage) for more. Labatts, Johnny, and I talked a little about this last night. I just can see myself pulling out hundy after hundy like I see some people do. Like the guy Johnny saw go thru $800 yesterday. If I lose that much, and it's not all suck outs, then I have to figure I'm not playing well and would leave well before I got to the $800 mark. I usually bring 3 buyins, plus some money for food. But even then, I would have trouble whipping out that last hundred.

KK again and again I lose. Guy was all in with AJ and hit an ace on the turn AND river. Fucking great. Paybacks are a bitch. I add another $20 and am down $140. Labatts isn't doing too much better, but I think he didn't lose as much as I did when we were both at the table together. Actually, I think he wasn't at the table when that second KK hand happened. I think he got up to make a phone call, comes back, and I'm whipping out more money.

It's now 1:30 and I've added another 20. So, with the money on the table (probably around $100), I'm in for $260 for the day. And it's only 1:30. Oh, and I think I lied. I think I had $400 with me. I still think I am getting my money in good, so there's not much I can do but continue to make good decisions.

56s somewhere in mid to late position and I limp. Limper behind me and T-Bone makes it 8 from the button. Both blinds fold, both me and the other guy call. Flop is 6-6-J. I screwed up a hand before with T-Bone on another weekend when I flopped trips, tried to slow play and let not only him but another guy catch up and pass me. I went from having the best hand on the flop to the worst hand on the river. So this time I bet 10. Guy folds, T-Bone folds AQ face up. T-Bone says to the other guy that I only bet when I have it. They go back and forth. I don't know if they know I can hear them. T-Bone, who does an ESPN recap of just about every hand he's in, says I probably had 10-J and hit my jack. I don't know how much of that end of the table (he was in seat 10) heard him, but I now need to use that image against this side of the table. One thing T-Bone mentioned is that he saw me play three hands all day and they were all KK. Unfortunately, I don't focus and don't use this information against him. I probably missed some chances to take pots with crap.

The guy in seat 3 has been playing for about 50 straight hours. Don't think I could do that. He had a stack in front of him, but not a huge stack that you would think you might have after playing 50 hours. Honestly, for the stack he had, I was not impressed. Impress he could play for that long, though.

KK again UTG. Two or three guys have been raising every other hand or something, so I try to be tricky and just limp with the hopes of a raise behind me. It doesn't work as like 6 people go to the flop. Whoops. Flop is J-5-x. One of the blinds bets 8 and I just call. I was totally affected by losing money and not playing well. T-Bone also calls. Turn is another 5 and it's checked to me. This time I bet 15, T-Bone thinks for a while and folds, other guy calls. Blank on the river, guy checks, I bet 25, guy thinks for a while, calls, and mucks when I flip up my kings. Guy next to me says he didn't put me on that...he thought maybe AJ. I explained I was hoping for a raise behind me preflop (and he was one of the guys that kept raising).

Now that I think about it, Labatts must have left before that hand because this was a different guy on my left. Labatts was meeting the wife eventually and since we both weren't doing very well, he decided to split and meet up with the wife.

Next round, KK UTG again. Fourth time today for the cowboys. This time, I raise to 10 and T-Bone asks "kings again?" and laughs. He's the only caller. I don't remember the flop, but I bet 15, he shows pocket jacks and mucks, I show him my kings. Probably shouldn't have because I just solidified in his mind that I am the tightest player in the world. Fine if I let him think that and take advantage, but as I mentioned, I didn't take advantage. Somewhere in there would have been the perfect time to raise a hand or two later with crap and take the pot.

Now it's 3:00 and I have $156 in front of me. Trying to make a comeback, but at 5:05 I have $105 in front of me and decide to leave. Again, the room started getting slow and the table was pretty tight at this point. Nobody was a real donk giving their money away and I was mad that most of the monies from yesterday is now gone. Down $155 on the day, still up $49 for the trip. And to add insult to injury, I find out the food vouchers are not good at Morrie's.

Here are some hands that I didn't get a chance to write down when they happened, so I don't have all the details. I tried to remember outside in the hallway when I cashed out.

I have 88 in EP, limp, as do 3 others. We see a flop of 8-9-10 and I can't fool around here. Checked to me, I bet like 7, all fold. Finally get a set and can do nothing with it.

I really screwed up trying to remember one hand, but I had an OESD on the flop, DIDN'T bet (WTF?), got my king high straight on the turn (I think I had JQ), bet 15, one caller. Queen on the river, I bet 25, he thinks for a while and seems like he wants to call, but folds. I think the queen killed my action. This seemed like one of those times when I could have tried a Mike Caro trick of doing anything to break his thought and get him to call. Mike suggests doing something like knocking over a stack of your chips or something.

Very next hand, AA on the button. Two limpers, I make it 12, one limper calls. Flop is 8-x-x with two clubs. I bet 15, he calls. Ten of clubs on turn. Usually when someone check/calls with a flop like that, I think flush draw. And now he's got his flush. He checks, I check. Nothing on river but now any 5 makes a straight. He checks again, I have no idea where I am so I check as well. He flips up 10-8 for two pair. OMFG, WTF? He limps with that, then calls my raise and 15 flop bet and hits. I'm super frustrated now. KK lose twice (out of four times), AA once. That's when I decide to leave.

I'm back at my hotel room before 6:00. How depressing is that? I watch TV, read some things I brought with me, wish they were showing Pens/Rangers on the cable, and end up going to bed before 11. Hoping to get some good sleep and will be back at it tomorrow.

Tomorrow features a wild ride as Snickers...one of the most quietest people ever at a poker table...drops not one but two f-bombs and is warned by the dealer to watch the language. First time ever I got a warning for language!

Shortstack fucking douchebags fucking fuckers and their fucking fuck ways. Fuck.

Because you know that fuckwit isn't pushing with AJ if he has a $100 stack. That fuck. And then they fucking hit. Fuckers. They always fucking hit. (Can you tell I just lost to 86s?)

Fucking play poker once in a while, you fucking fucks. Fuck. Oh, lets see, push, what the hell I hardly have any money out there. Maybe I can luck out and fuck up some guys hands 25 fucking times in one fucking morhtinv hfvuck fucking night the fucking fuckers.

It sucks that you got douchebagged. Sounds like a rough day. Next time I'll stay a couple days. And we'll be at FallsView. If this happens we can run around like lunatics and terrorize Canadians.

And Porterhouse or whatever his name is sounds like some A-1 dicksauce too. Too bad he wasn't there on Friday... would have been interesting to watch him... or maybe remember who he is if I have seen him before.

Man, I can't wait to see Sunday's report. For the life of me I can't imagine you dropping an F-bomb at the table. Let alone one bad enough for those fucks to say something. They seem so, well easy-going isn't the term... apathetic, that's it. Like when a guy pays the massage girl with $40 in chips from his stack then straddles then pushes the rest of his shortstack the next hand. FUCKERS. I was like wtf? And they were like wtf? and i was like WTF? and they were like eh.

Holy shit, Matusow, WTF? You got a warning for language? OMG I wish I was there to see it. For once, I could have been "the quiet one" .

Labatts, although Snickers is out of his mind  , he's on the mark about T-Bone. Lately, I have noticed that he is becoming much less of a donkey. He's still beatable and an unpleasant fucktard, but much less so than he used to be. He sat at our table the last time we played together, and I noticed his play improving even then. I was up there last month sometime and he played reasonably well then too (at least by his standards).

Was at the washroom when you lost the second KK hand. As I told you I could see you doing a Phill Hellmouth in your head on the first KK hand.beep beep beep..That river suck out guy had already re bought. He rivered you with a straight few hands later rivered tbone's buddy with a straight and rivered me when he hit a flush.
Tbones buddy.. guy to my left called every first bet in case it was the bad beat jackpot hand and of course was an expert

I left down -$68

Came back at 7.00 pm Saturday night Will post more later
Our original table still had short stacked girl who was to the dealers left and still short stacked and the guy who was on the end that had been there all night and stacked his chips in steps. When we played he probably had about close to 800 when i came back he was around 200

2 hands from day 1 come to mind. I limp with A/Q on the button 3 callers flop is A/Q/Q all check the flop. Turn is rag I bet minimum $7 all fold.
I did get all my chips in with this hand Dealt Q/Jd There was a pre flop raise of 7 I called 3 callers. Flop is Q Q A I raise to 15 ..I call- 2 callers Turn is K I bet 15 1 caller river is J I push remaining 42 he folds.

Day 2 After meeting with Wife I go back at 7.00 and sign up for 1/2 either 100/200 they start new table very quickly. It's busy here so they put us at the back in the elevated area .In the 100. Good table good mix of people. 2 Cannucks who were waiting for bigger table knew what they were doing. A Phil Hellmouth type who took forever to make a decision and would tap the table like a girlie when he checked and the cover his mouth aka Hellmouth. Nice couple, 3 young buddies who were having fun and a Johnny Depp Pirate look-alike.

Johnny Depp felts first and rebuys for only 50 ...a little later I have A/Q h and I raise to 10 he is the only caller flop is Qc 9C 2s I raise 20 and he pushes all in 34 .I call 14 more and he rivers his club flush. He later rebuys again for a 100.
This was really the only hand I lost a few chips. Get As Ks Qs bet minimum and get no action on these.

One other hand there is about 60 in pot I am in with Cannuck guy I have Q/J on Scary board is A/Q/J/10/9. We both check the river he shows J/10.

Later couple leaves down. 4th young buddy joins table and tells us how he lost 80 with his A/K to Chip leader at our old table to seat 3 guy when he hits trip 8s when flop is A/8/2

New guy joins with long beard and engineer’s hat sits down looks like cast of Soggy Bottom Boys. He immediately starts raising every hand he is in, and every time dealer shoves him chips he punctuates it with a big Yeah or Ok. Drives me nuts and most others.

How bad is poker here? Flop is 3s 7h 9s Soggy bottom boy raise one of young buddies all in 40 ish. Young guy calls
And shows Qc and 3h Soggy shows Js and 6s turn and river nothing and young kids 3s hold.

Soggy keeps raising and what was a fun table with some good talk and banter has turned quiet and defensive.

I get pockets 10s and he raises 10 I call. Flop is 10/9/3 He raises 15 I call.Turn is 4 and he raises 20 I ask him to move his arm so I can see his chips and push the rest of mine in 92ish. He thinks for ever and mucks his A/K suited UP and I gasp and say ...you folded that man… you had me dominated. He swears at me under his breath.
I realized later I could have taken more chips from Soggy but I acted as the Sheriff and tried to punish him cause he was an asshole.

Played a few more hands and left.

Looking forward to next spring.

Yeah, she was tighter than me. The whole table felt bad for her in one hand. She raises preflop, someone else re-raises, and she goes all in for like 80 more. Any idea what she has? Everybody knew she had aces. Guy calls anyway and the dealer puts four clubs out there...she has none, he has one and takes the pot. Brutal. (Edit: Guess I should mention somewhere in here what he had! He called with JJ).

Oh, he had that much when we were there? I didn't realize that when I made my comments. I thought he had around $400 or so. All I knew was he had me covered!
