Default "Do you want to go to Vegas?"

After giving him a hard time last year about not having any money in the training budget, my boss came through in a big way...

About three weeks ago, he says, "Do you want to go to Vegas?".. Awestruck, I mumble "Uh, Hell Yes!"..

He had a training class for me which happened to be in Vegas (3/17 - 3/20).. Which coincided with the start of the NCAA BBall tourney...

Off I went... The class was at the Circus Circus, but I'd rather stay in a tent than there, so I looked online and booked a room at the TI. A mile or so walk away.. After dealing with wind driven rain & snow for the last four months in Mass, I figured a mile walking in the 65-70 degree Vegas sun would be most welcome..

The class was great... There were 10 or so of us and 8 were poker players...

I did need to actually attend the class, so my poker time was a bit limited, but I was able to get some action...

There was always a tourney or a game if wanted to get into one somewhere...

I like the tourneys, so I googled and found this site Las Vegas Poker Tournament Schedule
I liked the TI 7:00 pm tourney (walk back to TI, get something to eat after class, etc)...

I was able to play in three of them, I didn't fare as well as I had hoped.. each tourney had close to 40 players..

I made the final table once, but was short stacked going in and finished one off the bubble.. I was pushed all in by Big stack.. (I had AK against AQ, flop - KJA, Turn - 3, River - 10).. that's poker...

The other two times I never really got going... I lasted through the first break, but busted out shortly thereafter... You need a combination of luck and aggression at these mini tourneys.. You will get called all the way to the river, so it could be a good pot if you have the goods... If not, you'll be at the rail too quick.

I did better at the cash games...

I walked the strip one night and ended up at Mandalay Bay.. Got on at a 4/8 game where I pulled a few really decent pots in a short time. I then got rather selective with what I played, and then was able to bluff a bit better.. I paid for my tourney losses with that game..

The next night after busting out I stopped by the Mecca of poker halls (Bellagio)... I was able to sit at a 2/4 table, while waiting for a 4/8 & 1/2 NL seat to open.. Good God folks, the stacks of chips at the big tables is for real! I'm thinking I could pay for my kids' college at the table next to me and a wedding at the one behind me... I ended up about even at my Bellagio experience...

I popped by the Venetian, They have a nice poker room.. I didn't sit for a game, but it's really nice..

That's my brush with the big boys in Sin City.. Back to the neighborhood game this weekend, no tales of glory, but fun nonetheless...

Nice report and welcome to the forum. The site you posted looks interesting as well. I was worried maybe you went through all that just to SPAM that link, but it actually looks quite informative.

What I liked about the site was you can put in a date or entry fee range and it'll tell you what's available... Pretty slick...
