Default Another live tourney cash.

I started thinking Friday afternoon I wanted to play some live poker. I finally decided when I got up Saturday, so I loaded up in the ole Charger and off I went. I get there about 2:30 and have to wait about 10 minutes until they start a new table. Not much went on the first hour or so, all but one guy seemed pretty solid. He was just a big calling station and lost quite a bit, just not to me. I was maybe up $10.00 at one point and then down maybe $15 at worst. Then my big lost occurred. It so happened that their jackpot hand was at $70,000.00 so the place was really hopping. More tables running than I had seen in the few times I had been there. Well this $70,000.00 cost me about $100.00. I am in the BB with A:spade: J:spade:. The jackpot hand is a spade royal flush. Well one of the solid players in Mid position raises to $15.00, pretty standard raise for the table. Another pretty solid guy calls on button, so if not for the royal thing I may have folded right there. SB folds and I have to call. The flop is 2:spade: K:spade: and x, can't remember. I check, and initial raiser goes all-in for $95.00. The button folds. Under normal circumstances I would not want to risk that much on a draw. With the very outside chance of runner runner for the royal, I just had to see it. Well he had AK and it holds up.

I ended up losing a couple of more medium pots, and then I am down to about 40.00 and a guy to my right raises to 15 and I have 66. I call and the flop is 744. He checks to me and I figure he got none of that and I go all-in. He calls and of coarse he has AA. A 5 came on the turn so I sweated him a little but a brick on the river and I am on to my second buy-in.

Things turned around after that. I got down to about $50.00 and I get AK. I raise to $15.00 and a fairly solid but very aggressive player goes all-in. I decide WTF and I call. He had some small PP and I hit my A to double up. The very next hand I get AA. I raise again, and the very same player calls me. The flop is not scary and I bet the pot and he calls again. another brick on turn and I go all-in and he calls. I flip my aces he never shows and I double up again. After this the guy goes on tilt and gets really aggressive. Probably a round later he has built his stack back up a bit and it's limped to me in the BB I have K3. I check my option. The waitress brings my sandwich I ordered about the time the dealer puts out the flop. it's 339. I look disinterested and tap the table for a check as I am paying the waitress. The guy I took the two pots off earlier bets $15.00. Everyone folds back to me and I announce raise. I raise him back $25.00. He goes all-in and I call. He has 53 and I bust him again. I take a few more small pots and when I leave to go start the tourney I have $323.00. For a $23.00 profit. If not for that AJ I it would have been an alright session.

Now this is where I make the real money. They are having the same tourney they had last time. $125.00 bounty tourney. We start with 30 players. The very first hand I get 77. It's limped to me in the cutoff. I make it 150. The blinds are 25/50. I get two callers. The flop is K52. It's checked to me I bet the pot. The guy to my left calls and the checker folds. Another K on the turn. So I decide I had better let it go I check and the guy checks. A 9 on the river and I check and the guy announces he has a a pair of nines. He had Q9o. So I figure oh great it's going to be one of those tourneys. I catch nothing at this table and after a few rounds I am down to about 2100, we started with 3000 chips. The floor moves me to another table and I am damn glad they did because I went on a heater and knocked out three players in about 20 minutes and was table chip leader by first break. Right after second break we go to final table and I am probably right in the middle average stacked. I have 3 bounty chips so I am only down $75.00 at most. When we get down to 5 one guy starts talking chop, but the chip leader at this point has about half the chips at the table. He says if we want to give him first place prize money we can split the rest. I wasn't really all that interested in chopping so we go on. The guy that started the chop talk gets knocked out 5th on the bubble so he wasn't to happy. Then myself and the other short stack both take big pots from the chip leader. He made some bad calls against the other guy and I got lucky against him twice, and he let me steal from him when he probably should have called me. My KQ against his A rag and my A7 against his A9 doubled me up twice. So after about 10 minutes the chip leader was busted and it was down to me and another guy. This guy was a really solid player, in fact he was one of the guys I split with last time I played this. Anyway we are about even in chips he has me covered slightly but not by much. It's now about 10:30 and I am ready to go, so I ask if he wants to chop and he agrees, so we each get $880 plus I have 4 bounty chips plus my own for another $125. :D

Oh and BTW while I was playing the tourney somebody hit the royal flush hand at a 1/2 limit table. $70,000.00 that would be a pretty nice pay day huh?

That tourney structure is identical to one that we have here. Is it 20 minute levels? I've been debating playing it and wondered if you could give any advice?

I believe it was 15 minute levels. Basically it was finding out who the solid players are and staying out their way, unless you have it. Try to take advantage of the weak players. I even like to show a few hands early that I don't have to so I can establish a tight rep and then start using that later on to push people out. T&A play will get you a long way in these things, I don't know that I did anything special, I just played using the strategies I learned here. Getting lucky doesn't hurt either. :)

Nice report and nice payday. Been wanting to play live for some time, just can't find the time and think I'm not going to get to play live until AC in March.
