we're on the 28th floor of the John Hancock building in Boston. I realize that's not super duper high or anything and honestly you forget about it after awhile anyway.
Well the other day someone's outside window shattered leaving nothing but air between you and 28 stories. Holy f'n crap. I seriously couldn't walk even towards that end of the building without getting sweaty palms and lightheaded. I'm so afraid of heights... the sickest thing is that some dude (building maintenence) strapped himself in and was in there literally leaning out the window pulling the broken pieces in. I would have a heart attack if I had to do that. anyway no real point just crazy shyte. |

I think that's a different window Eruu, see the reflection?
I'm not too fond of heights myself. I've got some limbs high up in an oak tree that are interfering with some of my best satellite channels (ESPNHD for one  ) and I have to decide whether to sack up and get up there with an extension ladder and pole saw or call a tree surgeon. I bought a tree harness to try to make the job safer, not that I know how to use it or anything. To complicate matters it overhangs my neighbor's yard, and more specifically, his tool shed, so I'm worried I'll put a huge dent in his shed in addition to the worry that I will fall 25 feet to my death  Actually, I'm not sure how high it is, it looks closer to +30 feet. Bah, what do I know. |

that's a pic from a window across the hall. No way in hell I get that close to an open one.
I have another related story. one morning last year I came in and a couple people were gathered around a window looking down at the parking garage (you can't see it above but it's about 5-6 stories like those buildings on the right) So I go over to see what they're looking at and on the roof is a crazy/homeless guy standing on the edge with 5-6 cops/detectives all watching. I was like OMFG is he going to jump? Apparently that was his intent but he couldn't pull the trigger. Every couple minutes the main cop would inch real close to him (it' looked like he could grab him from where we were) and just as he got reaaaaal close the guy would run, and I mean run, 20-30 feet, on the edge, away from the cop. so imagine on the roof of this building there was a wall about 4 ft high and on top maybe a 20in wide space to walk. This guy is running along this 6 stories up. my heart was POUNDING and after a few minutes I couldn't watch anymore. I just did not want to see this guy die. In the end they managed to talk him down but they had to block off two streets (they set up inflatable pads to catch him) and the whole parking garage which serves downtown Boston. wow what a way to start your day. |
