Default Weird Computer Shit

This is an IM conversation with tech guy in my office.

[16:13] Big Daddy: wait, what is new printer IP
[16:13] Dane: 76.108.21
[16:13] Big Daddy: scan
[16:13] Big Daddy: thx
[16:14] Big Daddy: how can I make scantrip save that
[16:14] Dane: settings
[16:14] Dane: save current settings
[16:15] Big Daddy: ok cool, I saved them but they don't work either
[16:15] Dane: hmm
[16:30] Big Daddy: hepl me find this thing

At this point he walks into my office and tells me that I have the wrong IP address entered. I show him our conversation via IM and he says he didn't type that. So I walk into his office and sure enough he typed 10.2.3.1 . So to test it I type the following to him and he copies and sends it back to me showing how trillian changed the numbers. WTF.

[16:32] Big Daddy: 10.2.3.1
[16:33] Dane: John says (4:32 PM): 76.108.2
[16:33] Big Daddy: wtf

So, WTF? He says that the number that it changed to is part of our IP address.

Just a weird deal.

It's obviously converting hexadecimal to decimal.

Obviously.

Ok, I don't understand any of this but 10.2.3.1 is our printer IP locally. That works for me fine now. The other number is part of the IP to our router (I think). It all confuses me.

Dane here, our internal address for our printer is 10.2.3.88, our ip address for the router is 75.109.xxx.xxx, when I sent him a message via MSN messenger with the address 10.2.3.88 it changed the chatlog to half of the outside address of the router (75.109.xxx.xxx). We were both inside the network with 10.2.3.x internal ip addresses.
