As Randy and Biggle can attest to, I wear, or did wear, really thick glasses. I have wore glasses since I was about 3 or 4 years old. As of Wednesday, I no longer wear them. My eye doctor informed me about 4 months ago I have small eye balls and a condition that can lead to a narrow angle glaucoma attack. My lens as it continues to grow would have cut off the drainage in the eye leading to a severe increase in eye pressure and nerve damage and possible blindness. So they recommended I have the lens in my eyes replaced with artificial ones. Well both eyes were completed Wednesday and it's a like a minor miracle. I am sitting here writing this and reading the computer with no glasses. It's a little blurry and I may still need reading glasses. I won't know for sure for a few more days, until my eyes have healed and readjusted.
This is awesome. |

Sweet! I am nearsighted, pretty severely in fact. I was thinking about getting the laser surgery myself since contacts are a PITA + I get eye infections a lot and glasses suck for any kind of physical activity or simply being able to watch TV while drifting off to sleep. Congrats on the successful lens replacement surgery!

As a fellow eye glass wearer, congrats! I've thought about getting Lasik, until I read how they do it. I'm too much of a wimp. Obviously, you're not talking Lasik and this was something that had to be done.

Yes it is a scary proposition. The procedure I went through was quite pianless. Also it was very quick. It took the doctor about 10 minutes on each eye. He did them a week apart. It was also quite expensive. Even though it was deemed medically necessary, insurance would only pay for a basic lens replacement. This would mean I woudl still need glasses for sure. I paid extra to have the restore lens installed. These are customized to your eye and basically corrects you vision at all distances. My eyesight will probably still not be perfect. It is pretty dam good though.
