Default Couple Questions - Acronymns & Hand History Tool

Hey guys,

I'm new to these boards and had a couple questions. Tried using the search feature but couldn't find the info I was after. Also, not sure if this was the best place to post but figured it was the safest bet. Thanks in advance for the help.

First off, is there a post someplace that lists and expands/defines all the commonly used acronyms such as UTG etc?

Secondly, I tend to play live more than online and was wondering if the Hand History Converter has input fields for live play data or if there's another tool for providing the most useful info to readers... or is it best just to master the art of typing it out manually?

Another question.

I notice that people posting their histories don't tend to show the end result after the river. I understand that this makes for better analysis but when and where do we get to see how the hand eventually played out? Maybe it's revealed much later after the thread has had time to be viewed and replied to by many but I haven't come across any of those yet.

Thnx

Just do a google search for poker acronyms.

We don't show results, because they don't matter. The results of a hand have absolutely no bearing on whether or not you played the hand well, since you aren't playing against a villain's exact hand, you are playing against his range of hands. It's easy to input your hand and your opponent's range into a program like Poker Stove, and figure out your equity, and thus, whether or not a certain action shows a positive expectation, regardless of the results.

It's like when you go to the casino, the house knows it will not win every time, but in the long run, they have a positive expectation by you playing table games. If they looked at the day to day results to determine if their games showed positive expectation for the casino, they might conclude that they should stop using them. But we know that'd be ridiculous. That's why we don't include results.

Yeah, or just ask away here in the forum. We're a friendly bunch that don't rip the new guys for asking any kind of questions, from basic to advanced.

And as far as the results of hands posted, I haven't posted a hand in a loooooooong time, but I usually include the results after the discussion is over because I know some people (like myself) like to see how it ends. Although Sevens is right...it doesn't really matter. Poker is just making sure you are making the right decision over and over...you can't control the cards. As long as you make right decisions, you will come out ahead.

UTG = Under the gun, the first postition to act preflop
BB = big blind, referring to either the player in the position or the blind itself, or in limit can also mean Big Bet which is twice the big blind
SB = small blind
BTN = button
MP = middle position
TPTK = top pair, top kicker, or if you're Jamie Gold just say "top top"
SSDB = shortstack douchebag
AIPF = all in preflop
huyachachcahcahca = i can't believe the fucker sucked out like that
CO = cut off position

Also, if you want to post pictures of cards put a : before the card designation, so the Ace of spaces would be : then A then s to get

Thanks for the replies folks. The info regarding result posting makes perfect sense.

I knew most of the acronyms you posted Johnny but lol'd at the Gold reference and the less common ones that followed haha... I'll make a list of those that I can't figure out on my own as I read various threads and reply later for more interpretation if needed.

Just back from another nice cash game session so gonna attempt to construct a hand history to post.

Cheers
