Default Question about satellites to the big show...

From my Microstakes world their aren't many practical paths to the WSOP events, so I'm going to play in the weekly PokerStars Freeroll Steps to pass the time.

I was curious though, how what, if any satellites seem to be the best and easiest route for when my bankroll can support such attempts?

Or do you guys not even bother?

I mean, if we don't apsire to get there one day, what are we doing this for?
Ok, to get rich and quick the day job, like Darin, but besides that...

I saw a good article on espn.com written by Greg Raymer, who believes it is better to buy into the bigger satellites (like the $160 double shootout, where the winner automatically gets a seat) than the smaller ones. Seeing as he was a patent attorney, one understands why he bought into that one, while schlepps like ourselves are looking for smaller alternatives. As a suggestion, you could try the $3.30 rebuys on Pokerstars where you can win a seat into the main $650 satellite. If your roll can handle it, I think there are $16 DS tourneys that can get you the $650 seat as well.

I've tried the steps, and haven't gotten past Step 4. However, if I win a $12 180 man MTTs on Stars (1st prize is like $540), I will buy into the $650 satellite directly.

It seems like Cake poker probably has the easiest ways to do it (although it is $12000 cash and not an entry, thanks to some silly law), and you can do it with Gold Chips alone if you want.

Unfortunately, I don't play on Cake enough to accumulate much more than 1/2 dozen or so chips a month. They come awfully slow at $10NL, I'm afraid.

On the other note of PokerStars, I was railing one last night towards the end of one of the Round 1's. With over 7000 entries that thing was OVER in less than 2 hours.

I kind of like satellites 'cause I'v done great in the $2+20's to Sunday's 100k. I may try some of the $3. +.30's as puck mentioned. Wouldn't it be sweet to make it to one of these someday?

Anybody else have some preferrable methods?

OMG that's funny! There are 70 dollar satellites at the Isle of Capri in Biloxi starting the first weekend in June. If you win one, you come back at the end of June to play another, the winner of that tourney gets buy in to the main event. I imagine that casinos all around the country are doing similar promotions.

Default Why do I bother???

I play in my 1st attempt tonight. almost 5000 entries. 50 advance. I go completely card dead for the last 20 minutes and have nothing that adds up to 12 with both cards combined (I'm not kidding).

I end up just about to blind out (30,000BB) with 28K, I finally get a pushable hand ( ) but don't even have one BB to push. I get two callers, the BB obv, and one EP player with way enough to sit out to the money (Fuckhead). No Ace, No Ten, douche EP player gets his 9 on the river to pair up with a Pair of 9's with 2 kicker.

Finished 52nd!
