Default Newbie-update

So its been about a month and I took most of your advice and stuck with the 1 cent / 2 cent NL cash tables. Here is an update of my status.

I've played over one thousand hands and I have a BB/100 of 0.51 for a winrate of 24 cents. Woohoo, big deal.

I bought PT as many of you recommended so I have some stats. My VPIP is 19.55%, raised preflop 5.64%, is that ok for a full table? I went to show down about 25% and I won money at SD only 46%, this seems very low to me.

Are there other stats that I should put here for some comments?

Post some hands, that winrate can definitely be improved. You are probably a bit passive and missing value.

You probably need to look at specific hands. If I were guessing I'd say you're probably overcommitting or too aggressive. Your aggression factors and W$SF% may be enlightening.

19% isn't a horrible lot of hands, it's slightly more than I play in that game. I generally go to showdown the same amount too, but win 60% of them. As a wild shot in the dark I'd look for two possible leaks.

1. The extra couple of percent VP$IP. While on the surface it's fine, it may be that you're getting involved with dominated hands, or overpaying to play marginal hands. I think cold-calling is a double edged sword at those stakes. While you might have nice implied odds to crack a premium hand, that isn't what your opponent is always holding. When they have crap like KJo in a raised pot, they tend to go home with a bit of prodding. It's not horrible for you to call and win a small pot, but it isn't wildly profitable either.

2. Getting over committed to the pot, which is I suspect a big chunk of your missing profit. If you're getting a lot of money in with the best hand and being outdrawn on your showdown percentage indicates a bad month. If you're putting in money on every street and losing, you may not be getting out soon enough. You should probably use the filter and look through the showdowns you lost to see what went wrong.

In the $5 game there isn't a lot of finese, just a lot of waiting for a big stick and beating on someone. The average pot is .60 and it costs you .03 per orbit, so you only need to win an average size pot every couple of orbits to do ok. If you win one really huge pot every 50-100 hands you're golden.
