Am I the only one that can't open a thread with new posts without it jumping to the newest one? It's cool that it has the little icon in the subject, but clicking on the subject also opens the newest one. Grrrr.
I'm a bit daft, so sometimes I like to start at the top and page down. Sometimes I even like to read multiple new posts in the order submitted without opening the thread and whacking page-up a bunch of times. |

Well, either I'm stupid or I'll end up sticking to the old forum. The inability to easily read old posts in a thread with unread ones is a bit of a deal-breaker for me. To be a brutally honest, I'm not sure how the hell you guys manage it. If a thread had five unread posts and automatically opens on the most recent one, you just page back through four of them?

Here, not so much. The icon and text both have the same url, the newest post. (Maybe that's mozilla screwing with me? I can check a different pc later.) That's quite a bit irritating when I want to see the first post to remind myself what the hell the thread was about. It wasn't an issue before, because I could decide to either open the thread or jump to the newest. It may be a display issue, but I find it's taking me to the most recent post as the "newest" and not the first unread. I'll try a couple different visits and threads though, it's possible I'm mistaken there or it's a browser issue. |

Actually this might be some kind of timezone problem. What is your timezone setting set to, in your profile? I'll research it and see what I can come up with.
Also, would you prefer an option to turn off the now-default behavior of going to the first unread post if you click on the topic title? I can look into that too.

Also it looks like it might be using a session cookie to keep track of your last unread post. I'm not sure exactly how it works. Do you have cookies turned on? If so, are they set to be removed whenever you close Mozilla or do you allow them to stick around? You can also add http://www.ridgepokerforum.com to your list of allowed sites. See if that fixes it.

Actually, I think it's an idiot problem. Namely, me.
I hit 'mark all read' when I registered, for obvious reasons. As people posted in threads, I then had to read them backwards. Now that I've caught up, it's showing the "correct" posts. But it's still a minor irritant. The ideal solution would be two links, ala tightpoker. One going to the newest, the other the default topic. For example: Suppose you post some pictures of your lawn mower. I'm not particuarly interested in said mower, so I don't open the thread. When I'm done reading, I mark everything as read. Tomorrow I come back, and there are 380 replies to your mower pics. Perhaps now I'm curious about this badass lawn mower. Why does it provoke such a response? The problem is, I can't open the thread at the top, because I already marked those as seen. No, I must first jump to comments about your mower, and page up until I get to the picture. I won't even get all the jokes reading it backwards! I may be in the minority, but similar situations happen to me somewhat reguarly. I may not read a section for a while, but still hit the 'mark all read' link because it keeps my places in sections I do read. Then when I browse around the unread one, I just open things from the top. Or, as I said, maybe a thread's a few weeks old with a new post. I'll open those at the top then jump down to the latest. |

I changed it so clicking on the topic title will go to the first post, and clicking on the icon will go to the last unread post like you're used to, since that makes more sense anyhoo. I didn't even realize that you could click on that new post icon. Let me know if that's more to your liking.
Glad to hear the main issue is mostly just a side effect of registration.
