You all know this. That time when your computer begins to sound funny. That time when you're installing a game and you get weird random errors. That time when you try to reboot the system hangs and you have to force a shutdown. That time when you attempt to bring the computer back up and it refuses to boot. :upset: Now I have to spend my evening installing my backups, and I can't remember when I last took an image so who knows what all I'll have to reinstall all over again. :sigh:

This a good time for a public service message. Back your shit up now. I went through this about a year ago and believe me it's a real pain in the ass. I made sure it wouldn't happen again. I am running a mirrored raid and I set up a batch file to back up all my important data on a third drive in my system as well as an external USB drive every night. Don't let this happen to you.

As they say, "Their are two kinds of people in this world, those who back up their shit, and those who wish they did before they let the smoke escape from their computer!"

Just this morning I had a chick approach me (I'm a IT guy) asking, "Is it a big deal that my computer makes a big humming noise every so often until I kick it and it quiets down for a while?"

I told her maybe one on her fans are filled with crap, or worse, maybe her hard drive is on it's way out. I told her I'd stop by after I get my coffee. She said, Maybe she should copy all her important stuff off her desktop first in case I have to "take" her computer for repair.

Some people will never learn.

For me, it's job security, for them it's the end opf the world... But either way, it's my fault. :banghead:

Fucking backups, ML, I feel your pain. I always am caught out without a reasonable backup. I have three systems I use regularly (lappy, home, work) and it's just too lame to always backup, I'd get home from work, backup, eat, then sleep. I made an executive decision long ago to give up on the backing up (an awful habit I admit). Anyway..... good luck, it irritates the shit out of me as well.

Ughhh, pain in the ass for ya ML.

Since I got this new laptop I just carry it around everywhere and it replaced my work desktop, home desktop, and home laptop. Now, since it's the only computer I use anymore, I don't have to back anything up!
