Hello John,
Guess you are coming out to Vegas on short notice, this Monday. If you have the time, maybe we could meet. Unfortunately on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays from 11 AM to 8:15 PM, and am off Thursday.
I watched and took some notes on some of the deuces cracked videos. bottomset's full ring videos are pretty solid. He gives a more professional presentation than most of the others, communicates very clearly, and is a solid player.
The one you mentioned djsensei is pretty good, although he focuses a lot on higher stakes games.
They focus on FullTilt and PokerStars where the games are tighter pre-flop, so much of my low voluntarily enter the pot is due to the frequency of multi-way pots on Ultimate Bet. Unfortuntely, it appears to me that most very good players, will read an opponent's betting patterns and try to put them on a range of hands, and make very large bets on the turn and river, relying on the their reads. From my vantage point, from day one, I always varied my betting patterns and ranges, so I assume that other players can do the same thing. When I try to assume other players are weak, and I am really not sure, I sometimes get killed by playing a good hand very aggressively. This creates higher variance. I seem to hold my own against the better players. HOWEVER, I DO NOT SEEM TO HAVE A GOOD EDGE ON THE FISH. I do not extract enough value from the weak players, and when I rely on hands and go after them, I too often lose, and probably I fold too often to large bets by the FISH, when I don't have a strong hand. I am coming out just a little ahead at $50 NL on UB. Of course if I add the 1.4 BB per 100 hands I pay for the bad beat, it looks a little better.
It appears to me that your game should be successful at, at least the $400 buy-in level, if you had the bankroll, but I would estimate, since win rates are lower at that level, that a bank of $10,000 may not be enough. Of course you can win a good amount at $200 NL.
My telephone number is (702)430-6247, if you would like to meet me on short notice. I am not allowed to have a cell phone where I work.
Good luck in your tournament.
Lou
