Running Blog of Super Poker Tuesday
I know it’s long. But it’s a running blog, not a walking blog. I’m on vacation this week and decided to make Tuesday my poker day…sitting in front of my PC all day, if I could. Here’s what happened. All times are PokerStar time.
12:30 - 120k players online, but most tables are around 20% VIP. Any table over 31 or 32 has 4, 5, 6 people waiting. I am working on a blog post about whether table selection really matters, so I’m not too concerned about finding a table. I add my name to a list on one table, but then decide to take it off because I have to poop.
12:39 - Back and ready to find a table.
12:41 - I pick a table and it’s a fast table, 29% VIP, biggest stack 25.60, no notes on anybody, button just past me, so I post.
12:49 - Pocket kings in the CO, min-raiser who I target as the table donk (even thou it’s early) calls my reraise. win a 12.70 pot when he calls my flop and turn bet, but folds on the river.
12:56 - I have a $5 shortstacker two to my left. I wonder if I can steal his blinds as I’m afraid if I raise w/any two, he will shove…table donk from above hand has left.
13:05 - Not playing a lot of hands…thinking of opening another table…my stats right now are 19.2/7.69/0, although it seems my aggression stats don’t pop up right. Surly I have had aggression…like on the KK hand when I reraised preflop and bet out on the flop, turn, and river. Seems like my aggression stats don’t show up right.
13:07 - Shortstacker to my left leaves the table.
13:11 - Open another fast table.
13:15 - Huge 3-way hand that I’m not involved in ($69 pot, two players all in) clears my original table, I leave when the BB gets to me. I’m up ~$4 for the day and searching for another table.
13:27 - Pocket 3’s in BB, get to play for free, miss the flop but someone just min-bets, another calls, so I call hoping for a cheap 3 on the turn. I get my three, I go for the check-raise, same guy min-bets, one caller, I raise to $2, both call. River puts flush draw out there, I bet anyway, all fold.
13:29 - Pocket aces three times in past two days…each time, folded to me, I raise, all fold. Beats losing, I suppose.
13:38 - I don’t like one table I’m on so I close it. An hour in and I’m still up about ~4, win one or two small pots, lose one or two small pots.
13:40 - iTunes seems to like Billy Joel today. Now playing like the 5th Billy Joel song since I sat down….my stats for the only table I’m on right now is 5.6/0/1. I think I’m going to stay with this one table for now and switch gears a bit.
13:58 - There is a guy who is playing a lot of hands and keeps min-betting. It’s a pain. He’s from Denmark. He raised w/QQ, but didn’t w/KK or JJ. And the KK hand he played real weak. Meanwhile, I get no action w/AKs or JJ in EP, maybe because of my stats which I’ve worked up to a blistering 9.3/4.65/.75. I’d leave and establish myself at another table, but I think I can make money at this one.
14:04 - QQ and KK back to back hands in EP, raised, all folded both times. Despite my stats, I’m up ~8 at this table…two people are now sitting out and Mr. Min-bet Denmark isn’t playing as many hands. I might leave soon. PS has us at 14% VIP in the lobby. And while grinding it out by stealing blinds is an option, it’s not very fun.
14:09 - Mr. Min-bet Denmark just busted out, calling a massive all in with a baby flush and losing to quads. AK UTG+2, again, I raise, all fold. I’m leaving this table when the blinds get around. Up ~$9 for the day.
14:15ish - I’m back 2-tabling at two fast tables. One table, I uncheck ‘wait for blind’ because it looks like I’ll be in MP/LP, but apparently there are a few new people and I’m actually in EP. In the first three hands, I lose ~$1 w/44, win ~$1 with AK, lose ~$1 w/AK.
14:37 - Thought these might be decent tables, but both are turning out to be pretty tight. I’m trying to get into steal mode, and have stolen some blinds.
14:52 - Both tables start to break up…we’re down to 6 players on each, so I wait for the blind to come around and leave both tables. Pretty boring poker, but I stole a lot of blinds. Up almost ~13 for the day. Wish it was more, but no huge hands (either winning or losing). But I’m glad I’m up. Taking a small break for lunch.
15:55 - Back and playing a fast table, and quickly opened another.
16:08 - Again, AA UTG, raise, all fold.
16:16 - QQ loses to AK…now only up ~$4 for the day.
16:24 - Have to fold pocket tens to heavy betting…am now down for the day and pissed as I’ve blown over $14 in 25 minutes of play after taking over 2 hours to win $12.
16:31 - I pick up a ~$40 pot with pocket sevens when the flop comes Q-7-x and I’m up against two AQo’s. Their stacks were both between $10-15 and we get it all in on the flop. I pair the board, but didn’t need it. Back up for the day.
16:37 - Finally AA get a little action and I pick up a small pot.
16:53 - I should leave the table where I won the big pot. One guy has a full stack, one other has $15, the rest are $10 and under. I think I’m going to leave when the BB gets to me…not enough money on the table and the short stacks aren’t busting out to be replaced with fuller stacks. And now the full stack just left…I’m done here…I have 46.15, the rest of the table has a combined 56.35.
16:58 - QQ loses this time to KK…luckily I only lose 3.50 because I’m a nit. Two hands later, AA again and I win a small pot, roughly breaking even over those two hands.
17:00 - Now iTunes is digging Ben Folds…something like 4 out of the last 7 songs have been him.
17:08 - I misplay AQ from the SB and lose a couple of dollars.
17:26 - I’m doing good at hitting sets today, but one table I’m just snake-bitten…can’t seem to win, so I’m going to close that one and find another. Actually, I’m not liking the other table either as it’s getting too tight and small stacks are starting to take over so I’m just going to close both and reset. Up ~23 for the day, PS now has 157k players.
17:38 I lose a ton when AQ<AK and now am only up ~6.
18:15 - Nothing happens for a while…just breaking even until pocket aces again. $5 shortstacker raises before me, I reraise, all fold back to him, he shoves, AA vs KK, I’m good.
18:36 - Both tables too tight and one has 4 short stacks. WTF with these short stacks? $5 is too small to be allowed to sit at a 25NL table. Closing both and looking for new ones. Up ~11, which is depressing after 5 hours of play.
18:49 - One table I picked quickly breaks up and I’m looking for a new table. My slide continues…up only ~8 now.
19:33 - I’m winding down. I got too pissy because I stopped winning. I was down to only winning ~$5 on the day and decided if I worked it up to +10, I’d stop. I’m at ~11 now and am waiting for the blinds to reach me on my last table. I’ll have to figure out the stats. I’m sorta glad I’m up, but was hoping for a lot more since I played for so long. This really hurt my bb/100 for the month!!
Recap - totals for the day…almost 6 hours (mostly 2-tabling…you want to get technical, 5.85 hours of playing, 9.61 hours of actual table time), 704 hands, up $11.40 for 3.24bb/100. 15 different tables, 9 winning sessions. I think all my stats are too low…VIP, PFR, aggression. I went a while with no hands and one or two tables I was worried about stealing blinds due to the players behind me. Over all, I didn’t really have much fun. It started out good, then I never recovered from that AQ vs AK hand that cost me so much. I was hoping to turn in a big profit today to set myself up for having a winning year in site. I’m still some $85 down for the year (the first four months were just awful). It’s within reach with one month to go, but I never know how much time I’ll have to play.
Some other stats: AA five times, all winners with a 4.88 bb/hand. AK 11 times, successful 8 times, but didn’t make that much. AQ 12 times, but thanks to the one hand, it’s a loser. KK four times, all winners (4.52 bb/hand). QQ eight times, won 75% but still lost money. The big hand net-wise and ave/hand-wise was pocket sevens, thanks to the set in that big hand.
