Back to 10NL…After One More Shot

July 30th, 2009

Since this month has gone so horribly wrong…wrong enough that I decided to drop down to 10NL, I of course fired up a couple 25NL tables last night.  Why?  Because this month is so far gone (for me) that what could it hurt?  If I’m going to turn it around, rather I get hit in the face with the deck at 25NL instead of 10NL.  There were a couple spots I was a huge favorite and lost this month…that’s poker…so I figured if variance was going to turn in my favor, let it happen before I moved down. Movin’ On Down!

July 26th, 2009

Unlike the Jeffersons (who, for you kids these days, were moving on up), I will be moving on down. Down to 10NL. Things are not going well this month. Another losing month. I haven’t had time to review my hands, so I don’t know if it’s something I could have avoided being so bad or if it was bound to be a losing month. But regardless, I need to do something to change things around. I’m starting to get like I was right before I took my two month break (frustrated and angry) and I don’t feel like taking another break so it’s time for some changes. Read the rest of this entry »

Running Blog of a Freeroll

July 18th, 2009

I played in the PPA Petition $3,500 Freeroll today and decided to do a running blog. I’ve cleaned it up a bit and tried to shorten it. Enjoy, although it’s not very exciting and, of course, too long.  Editor’s Note: wow…I didn’t realize it was this long until I posted it.  Sorry.  Break it up into chunks or something.  Or wait until you need to kill some time at work. 80% Favorite Doesn’t Mean You’re Going To Win…Twice

July 12th, 2009

I really don’t want to turn this blog into a bad beat forum, but this post will at least start out that way.  I apologize in advance and won’t hold it against you if you skip this one.  Here…I’ll bottom line it for you.  I started out with a really good hand and lost.  WTF??  Then, soon after, I had another really good hand and you know what?  I lost.  Double WTF? Slow Goings

June 21st, 2009

So, since my “I’m Back” post from May 30th, I really haven’t played that much.  I think I’ve only played 2 or 3 times this month, but that’s more than I was since I played zero hands in March, April, and most of May.  During May, I was reviewing my hands from February and noticed I was being very weak.  Unfortunately, my weakness continued last night.  There were some hands that probably would have turned out differently had I played them like I should have.  I don’t know if it’s rust or bad habits creeping back in.  Probably bad habits. I’m back!

May 30th, 2009

Woooooooooo!!!  I played poker today!!  30 minutes!  Not a freeroll!  For real money!!  And I won!!  And as I write this, I’m in a tournament!  OK, the tournament is an FPP tournament, so it’s kinda free.  210 FPPs, 2 tables, top six win an entry into the $250,000 Sunday tounament.  If I ‘win’, I’ll unregister, take the T$11, and play 2 SnGs eventually.  Oh, and I signed up for the WSOP freeroll at noon.  There’s over 3,000 people signed up and there’s another 40 minutes before it starts.  Top ten get an entry into another tournament.  What the heck…I’ll give it a go. Coming Back Soon?

May 5th, 2009

I played in a freeroll Sunday afternoon.  About 1,600 people and I finished something like 512th.  It’s more or less a turbo tournament and I played maybe three hands (never was above the starting stack) before being forced to shove with 9-4o or I would have been blinded off.  Unfortunately, 9-4 was one of the best hands I got when I reached the point of fold or shove.  I did have JJ once earlier in the tournament.  Faced a sizable raise before me preflop, just called, and it was reraised behind me.  I was all ready to fold even before it got back to the original raiser, who then shoved.  The other guy called and it was KK (original raiser) vs QQ.  Jack on the flop had me temporarily pissed until I realized the flop also had a king.  And I was really happy that I folded when the QQ made a straight on the river. The Break Continues…But Why?

April 27th, 2009

(This post is long and rambly.  Longer and ramblier than usual.  I usually ramble and then go back and edit it down, but I decided to just leave this one as is.)

My break continues.  Still no “for cash” poker online since the end of February.  I did play a freeroll in early March and had my Niagara Falls trip in April where I played some live poker.  But other than that, nothing.  And I honestly don’t miss it, which has surprised me.  I thought after two months of no online poker, I’d be dying to get in there and mix it up. Pre-Trip Trip Report

April 2nd, 2009

Off to Niagara Falls for a poker weekend, so I thought I’d write up a Pre-Trip Trip Report.  Now that it’s here, I’m looking forward to it more and more.  Still unsure what I’m going to play.  I lost a lot of money playing live poker over the last year or so, so I’m leaning to just playing some 2/4 Limit and enjoying being away for the weekend playing poker.  I’ll probably end up starting off at the NL tables Friday night and if something bad happens (whether it’s my fault or not), switching to Limit.  Here’s a list of various things… Read the rest of this entry »

Still Breakin’

March 31st, 2009

My poker break continues.  Sorta.  I played in a freeroll Sunday and it went exactly as I figured it would.  Sit there like a bump on a log, not play a hand because I don’t get a decent hand and/or everybody is raising/shoving and I don’t have good enough cards to join in, become a shortstack and be forced to open shove with any ace, get called by a worse hand (I had two overs, hit my ace, and he still won), and get knocked out.  And it pissed the crap out of me.  Which leads me to believe I’m still not ready to play if I got so mad and frustrated at a freeroll.  I almost felt like playing once last week, but it went away.  Read the rest of this entry »
