I’m back!
Woooooooooo!!! I played poker today!! 30 minutes! Not a freeroll! For real money!! And I won!! And as I write this, I’m in a tournament! OK, the tournament is an FPP tournament, so it’s kinda free. 210 FPPs, 2 tables, top six win an entry into the $250,000 Sunday tounament. If I ‘win’, I’ll unregister, take the T$11, and play 2 SnGs eventually. Oh, and I signed up for the WSOP freeroll at noon. There’s over 3,000 people signed up and there’s another 40 minutes before it starts. Top ten get an entry into another tournament. What the heck…I’ll give it a go.
So while I’m playing in the FPP tournamnet, I’ll do a blog about my quick session. I’ve been itching to play for a little while now, but couldn’t find the time. I’ve been reviewing my hands from February (the last time I played) and that just made me want to play more. So, Saturday morning, nothing going on quite yet (although I have about 437,298 chores to do), I thought I’d pop into PS and play just one table of $25NL. Just to get my feet wet and shake some rust off.
(I forgot these 210FPP Satellites don’t play like other FPP tournaments. These guys aren’t bad.)
I find a table and jump in. Table seems tight, which is good for me. A few hands in, I get AA and win. Not long after, AA again and I’m good. AK 3 times, win once, lose twice (hate AK). Stole a blind or two, got caught stealing once. I think I played pretty well. I was trying to put people on hands and was doing well doing that. But this table was so tight, not many hands went to showdown.
(Blinds up to 50/100 in the FPP tournament and I’ve played like 3 hands, never making it past the flop. I’ve gotten shit for cards and will probably end up shoving soon. 13 players left.)
It wasn’t a very exciting table, but it was a good one for me to jump back in with. I stopped after 30 minutes up $8.70. Of course, getting AA twice in 30 minutes helped. I probably won’t play tomorrow, so I can book a winning month. ;) Down for the year, so it will help.
But I felt good and really wanted to play, which was the whole point of the break. It was fun (again, AA 2x helped!). The break definitely helped in a big way. I was a little surprised the break lasted 3 months. And I’m going to ease back into things…maybe single table for a little bit.
(Doubled up w/AK (I love AK!)…made the final table. 10 people left.)
If you’re not having fun playing poker, I can’t recommend taking a break enough. You might not know how long of a break you’ll end up taking, or how far it will go (I even stopped going to the forum for a bit and still stay away from the strat sections), but it helps to step away and think about other things for a while. Poker is supposed to be fun. If it’s not fun, you’re doing it wrong.
(FPP tournament over…finished 8th when I was forced to shove w/K6s and missed. Damn it. I hate poker.)

Up until K6s I though you reset all the way back to the beginners boomswitch!

Yeah, I think the doomswitch expires after 90 days of inactivity. We’ll see what happens the next time I play.

Agreed that poker is supposed to be fun. Taking April off (not entirely by choice, i had to prioritize some things) really helped me put things in perspective. Best of luck to you if you decide to keep playing! 25nl = value-town NL.
