I Three-tabled today!! Twice!!
Amazing what a good night’s sleep does for you. I have slept awful every night this week. Finally, Friday night came around and I was able to sleep in Saturday morning. Finally refreshed, I decided to fire up some 25NL on PokerStars in the early afternoon. I usually two table and have thought about adding another table to get more hands in, but haven’t yet. Finally today, I did.
I was playing my usual two tables and was getting bored. I think the boredom was partially because I got such good sleep that my mind was ready to take in more information. Now, I suppose you could technically say I have three-tabled before. But only for like 2 minutes at a time. Usually, I’ll be playing two tables and decide to leave one for whatever reason, so I’ll fire up another while waiting for the blinds to come around on the table I am closing. But today, after 2-tabling for about 20 minutes, I had three tables going for about another 40 minutes. It wasn’t bad at all.
I watched Sevens video of him 12 tabling, which made me think that I should at least try to do three! I was prepared to not worry about what was happening on tables that I couldn’t watch or worry about whether I won a hand or not if another table needed attention while I was in a hand. What I did miss was watching the tables to take notes on other players. I had to pretty much go on what I saw, plus their stats. So I can see what everybody says…your game suffers a little with each table you open, but you still make more due to more hands. You have to find the balance. And I think I found it with my little 3-tabling.
Today was a rare split session where I played two separate times. I logged back in in the evening before dinner and again started with 2 tables for about ten minutes, then added another table for about 30 more minutes. This time, I was actually in a hand on all three tables at once, all fast tables. Got a little tricky there for me, but I managed! And I had pocket queens that I think I missed some value because I couldn’t pay attention to that particular table for the whole hand. I ended up winning against AK, but think I missed a little value.
So, to wrap it up, I’m glad I finally made myself 3-table. I think I can do it fairly often, but only when I’m not tired, which I usually am. When will I add a fourth? Probably not for a while. There’s overlap with three and I don’t know if I want to resize because I’m old and like the tables at their standard size. Maybe I’ll fire up four play money tables just to see what it looks like.
Big hand from today and I wonder if I played it right. I was 3-tabling at the time. I think I should have shoved the flop. But maybe not. If I didn’t have the ace of spades, I might have folded on the turn. I’m happy with my preflop play as of late, but need postflop work on hands like this when I face aggression.

Congrats on 3 tabling! It’s good to push yourself outside of your comfort zone every once in a while to see what you’re really capable of. It’s both a great confidence boost to know you can do it and a way to stretch your poker muscles so to speak.
On the posted hand, yes I would definitely be shipping the flop. He’ll show up with a lot of draws, pair + draw combos, and top pair type hands. I’d be willing to get all in with TPTK, over pairs, and strong draws like AK of spades.
Good luck!

You might as well make it an even 4 tables just so that it looks right on your screen. Either that, or play 2 tables of holdem, then 1 large table of omaha.
